OOTDBuy Size Guide: Measure Shoes and Clothing.
Choose a size by comparing the seller’s chart with foot or garment measurements taken using the same method and units. This guide explains the measurement process; model-specific comparisons are linked below.
Measure an item that fits
Lay a similar garment flat without stretching it. For tops, note the chest width, length, shoulder width and sleeve length. For trousers, check the waist, rise, inside leg and leg opening.
Record how each measurement was taken. A waist measured flat is different from a measurement all the way around it. Compare measurements taken the same way, especially when the fabric stretches.
| Measurement | Keep the method consistent |
|---|---|
| Chest width | Measure flat across the garment at the same point used by the seller. |
| Garment length | Use the same starting point, such as the shoulder or back neckline. |
| Waist | Check whether the chart means flat width or full circumference, and whether it is relaxed or stretched. |
| Inside leg | Use the same crotch-to-hem points; keep it separate from total trouser length. |
Read the size chart carefully
Check whether the chart uses centimeters or inches. Follow any diagram showing where to measure. Length measured from the shoulder may differ from length measured at the back of the neck.
Check whether the numbers describe the garment or the wearer’s body. A chart based only on height and weight is a rough recommendation, so ask for garment measurements if you need a closer comparison.
Allow for the fit you want
Compare similar garments and fabrics. An oversized hoodie needs a different amount of room from a fitted T-shirt. Consider stretch and any layers you plan to wear underneath.
Choose by measurements rather than automatically ordering a larger size. If you are between sizes, compare the dimensions that matter most to you and ask the seller for clarification where needed.
Check shoe sizing separately
Use the seller’s chart for the specific shoe model and compare it with a pair that fits you. If you request an insole or internal measurement, make sure it is taken in a way you can compare.
The outside length of a sole is different from the usable space inside the shoe. US, UK and EU labels can also vary between models, so check the listing’s own size information before ordering.
Confirm important measurements at the warehouse
If fit depends on a particular measurement, request a clear QC measurement photo before shipping. Compare the same points used in the chart and your reference garment.
Save the size chart and the option you ordered. If the received item differs, report it before international shipping and check the return conditions before removing tags or changing packaging.
Common size-chart mistakes
- Comparing a body measurement with a garment measurement without checking which the chart uses.
- Doubling a flat measurement when the chart already gives a full circumference.
- Comparing a stretched waistband with a relaxed measurement.
- Using the outside length of a shoe as though it were the space inside.
- Choosing from height and weight alone when garment measurements are available.
If an important dimension is missing, ask for it before ordering. A seller recommendation can help, but keep the chart and any measurement explanation so you can check the item received using the same method.
