Le Pliage Original vs Xtra: Two S Handbags Compared
For Le Pliage Original versus Xtra, choose comparable bag types before comparing collections. Here we use the Original S handbag L1621089P68 and Xtra S handbag L1512987001. Both are small handbags, but their dimensions, straps and interiors differ. That is a more useful basis for a daily-carry decision than comparing a large Original tote with an Xtra mini bag.
The same S label still covers different dimensions
| Detail | Original S — Navy | Xtra S — Black |
|---|---|---|
| Reference | L1621089P68 | L1512987001 |
| Base length × height × depth | 23 × 22 × 14 cm | 25 × 23 × 16 cm |
| Body | Coated recycled polyamide canvas; cowhide trim | Cowhide leather; textile lining |
| Handles | 9 cm handle height | 12 cm handle height |
| Separate strap | Not listed for this reference | Adjustable and removable; 35–60 cm strap height |
| Interior | Unlined; two flat pockets | One zipped pocket and one flat pocket |
| Main closure | Zip and snap | Zip and snap |
The Xtra reference is 2 cm longer at the base, 1 cm taller and 2 cm deeper. These differences can matter for a particular object, but multiplying the dimensions would not establish usable capacity: the shapes taper, and the opening constrains what can pass through. Do not treat the product measurements as an interior box.
A real specification makes the carrying decision clearer
The Original reference’s short handles and the Xtra reference’s removable strap give different carrying options. If leaving your hands free matters, the strap is a concrete reason to investigate this Xtra. If you specifically want a small handheld bag, the Original’s arrangement may already satisfy the requirement.
A practical packing comparison begins with what you actually carry: phone, keys, wallet, glasses case and any bottle. Measure the largest rigid item and check its dimensions against the opening, not just the widest-looking part in a photograph. This is a suggested packing exercise, not a claim that we fitted those items into either bag.
Longchamp’s US Xtra S page lists 1.18 lb, while the Indian metric page lists 537 g for the same reference. The Original GB page used here does not publish a weight. There is therefore no supported numeric weight difference to report. Request or measure the missing value if empty-bag weight is decisive.
What the lining and pockets change
The Original’s two flat pockets offer separate places for small objects but no zipped interior compartment. The Xtra has one of each. A buyer who wants keys behind an interior zip has a specific feature to compare; someone using a separate organiser may place less value on the pocket arrangement.
Think about access as well as the number of pockets. The main compartment, the interior zip and a removable organiser are three different ways to separate belongings. More divisions are only useful if they fit your routine.
Canvas versus leather is also a care decision
The Xtra page advises protecting the leather from heavy rain, rubbing, oils, solvents and colour transfer. That matters for someone regularly carrying a bag beside dark denim or commuting in wet weather. Follow the care instructions for the exact bag rather than assuming that a leather upgrade removes maintenance.
The Original reference combines a coated fabric body with leather trim, so describing the whole bag as washable nylon is too imprecise. Check the full product care directions before cleaning it. The two materials need not respond to the same treatment.
Which S handbag belongs on your shortlist?
Start with the Original S if the small handheld format and fabric-and-leather combination are the features you want. Investigate the Xtra S if a separate strap, leather body and zipped interior pocket are worth the different dimensions and care requirements. Neither conclusion describes every Original or Xtra model.
In an OOTDBuy spreadsheet entry, retain the reference, dimensions and carrying arrangement. A listing called Le Pliage S is not specific enough to reproduce this comparison. Use the official products as design references; check the actual seller’s description independently before assuming its material or capacity matches.
